A high-level presence at the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow

July 20, 2010

Aircelle is participating at the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow, which began Monday, July 19 and will conclude on July 25. Throughout this biennial UK gathering, company representatives will be present at the SAFRAN stand, which is located in Hall 4, B12.

Nacelle products from Aircelle are located in the exhibit hall and are visible during the daily flying displays at this biennial UK event. A full-scale Rolls-Royce Trent 900 nacelle for Airbus’ A380 is being shown on the SAFRAN stand, while Aircelle’s nacelles for the Powerjet SaM146 engines on Russia’s Superjet 100 airliner are airborne during the daily flight demonstrations. Visitors also can see the Bombardier Global 5000 and Falcon 7X equipped with Aircelle nacelles on static display at Farnborough.

On July 20, Airbus delivered the milestone first A330-200F freighter to launch customer Etihad Airways – which is equipped with Aircelle’s Trent 700 nacelles.

For the A380, Aircelle provides nacelles for this jetliner’s two different engines: the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 and Engine Alliance GP7200. The Trent 900 nacelle currently is equipped on 17 aircraft in service with Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Lufthansa, and has a diameter of approximately 4 meters and a length of more than 8 meters.

The A380 nacelle is the most advanced ever developed for a commercial aircraft. Aircelle handles this program at a world-class "podding" facility in Toulouse, France – near the A380’s final assembly line – which is ready to support the production of up to four aircraft per month.

Aircelle’s use of its Electrical Thrust Reverser Actuation System (TRAS) in the A380 nacelle marked a major evolution in the design and operation of thrust reversers. The Electrical TRAS replaces older generation hydraulically-driven thrust reversers, and provides for a simplified design, reduced weight and increased safety.

Contributing to the A380’s low operating noise level is Aircelle’s advanced acoustic treatment in the engine nacelle, while the company has applied an increased use of composites to lower the nacelle’s overall weight.

The program is supported by Aircelle’s flexible thrust reverser assembly line – a world-class lean manufacturing facility – located in Le Havre, France which is capable of producing four nacelle configurations.

Aircelle is proud to exhibit in the United Kingdom, as one of the company’s largest production sites is located in Burnley, Lancashire. Aircraft equipped with hardware produced by Aircelle Ltd., the UK operation of Aircelle, includes large jetliners such as the Airbus A380 and A330, as well as Boeing’s 747 and 767; the Embraer ERJ 135, 140 and 145 regional aircraft; the Embraer Legacy 500 and 600 business jets and the Bombardier Challenger 300 business jet.

Aircelle Ltd.’s clients include Rolls Royce, Aernnova, GKN, Gulfstream, Goodrich and Airbus. To date, the company has a workforce of more than 700 individuals.
